New Project Arrow Portal launched by Secretary, Posts


This Web Portal has been developed for Project Arrow so that objectives and deliverables of the project are widely disseminated in the public domain and a proper channel is put in place for receiving feedback from stakeholders i.e. post office customers and the staff members. This interactive interface will facilitate in getting feedback and suggestions from customers across the country which will be vital inputs for further improving both the core operations and the ‘Look and Feel’ of Project Arrow Post Offices.

TCS bags Rs 1,400 crore India Post project


 
   


  NEW DELHI: IT major TCS has bagged the Rs 1,400-crore project of India Post for computerising counter operations and the two parties will sign a pact on Monday, a top government official has said. 

The project is divided into two parts --two years for implementation and five years of maintenance.
 

"We will sign agreement with TCS on Monday for computerising counter operations under core system integration of India Post. Around Rs 1,400 crore has been earmarked for the project," Department of Post secretary P Gopinath told.
 

The government has approved Rs 4,909 crore for phase II of modernisation of post offices under which the department is gearing up for providing real time core banking services as well. 

The Indian IT companies, which earn major part of their revenues from foreign markets especially the US and Europe, are betting big on the domestic government projects.
 

TCS had also bagged the mission mode e-governance project and Passport Seva Project from the MEA in October, 2008.
 

Infosys
 has bagged a Rs 700-crore project that would help India Post transform its banking and insurance operations cross 1,50,000 post offices in the country. The Department of Post has started deploying modern technology solution to develop core banking capability across post offices. As part of modernisation, it has set a deadline of March 31 to computerise all department post offices. 

The IT modernisation project approved the Cabinet was divided in three parts: Pilot, Phase I and Phase II.
 

In Phase 1, DoP has to roll out modern IT solution in six circles, namely Assam, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
 

The project included computerisation of all post offices, core banking solutions including installation of 1000 ATMs, mail tracking, customer service call center and introducing eCommerce solution, handheld devices for post masters for update on services like mails, money order etc.
 

Some activities like installation of ATMs under Phase 1 are yet to be completed by the department.

Under phase II of the IT project, DoP has plans to roll out modern IT solution in rest of the country.

Dearness Allowance 80% With Effect From 01-01-2013 –Approved By Central Government

The Union Cabinet today in its meeting, gave its approval to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 1.1.2013 representing an increase of 8% over the existing rate of 72% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate for price rise. The increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission.
Necessary order for increasing Dearness Allowance will be issued by Finance Ministry soon. The resultant arrears amount on account of the increased Dearness Allowance for the month of January , Febraury and March will be paid to central government employees by the respective Ministry/Department after the issuance of the order for granting dearness allowance by Ministry of Finance .

India Post Launches Mobile Money Order Service

​India Post launches mobile money transfer scheme

VARANASI: People can now avail mobile money transfer service of India Post. The service has been started at Varanasi Head Post Office, Vishewshwarganj, Varanasi Head Post Office, Cantonment and Bisauri branch office, Chandauli from Tuesday.

 Launching the service in Varanasi at Visheshwarganj head post office, director, Postal Services, Allahabad region, Krishna Kumar Yadav said that MMT is a financial service which provides facility for remittance and receiving of money at selected post offices. Under it, a minimum amount of Rs 1,000 and a maximum amount of Rs 10,000 can be send in a single transaction. There is no limit to the maximum number of transactions made in a day. The service was launched by sending Rs 1,500 of Ram Bachan Maurya from Visheshwarganj head post office to Kanpur head post office.
 A sender can visit the identified post office where the service is available, deposit the amount and present the receivers details in a prescribed format. After this, the sender would get a six digit transfer code on the mobile phone which have to be send to the receiver via SMS. Similar SMS will also be sent to the receiver and counter clerk automatically by the system. The recipient can claim the money at a nearby post office by showing the transaction code and verifying his identity. Recipient also needs to withdraw the money within seven days of transaction.

 The service has already been started in 136 post offices of Uttar Pradesh, including 19 under Allahabad region.


 Yadav said that the rates of the services have been kept low. A person sending money through MMT service will be charged Rs 45 for sending money in the range of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500, Rs 79 for money ranging between Rs 1,501 and Rs 500 and Rs 112 for money transferred in the range of Rs 5,001 to Rs 10,000.

 Yadav also informed that the department of Post has partnered with the state run BSNL to launch the mobile money transfer service. Specially designed mobile handsets with pre-installed mobile money transfer application have been provided to the identified offices for carrying out the services.
